The Carnivore diet is a great choice if you’re looking to lose weight and/or improve your health.

But many people who try Carnivore don’t stick with it because they find it boring or too restrictive.

And some people hesitate to even give Carnivore a go, for those same reasons.

Let’s look at some tips that can help.

What is Carnivore?

The Carnivore diet just means that you eat only animal products.

No plant food. Meaning no carbohydrates.

It’s the ramped up version of the Ketogenic diet.

Some people are stricter than others.

For example, some carnivores use spices on their food, while others do not.

So depending on how strict you want to be with it, there are ways you can spice up your Carnivore diet.

Do more with your beef

Burger patties are a staple, but there’s plenty more you can do with beef.

For example, you can make a carnivore meatloaf, or mix some creamy egg yolks into a pan of beef.

Get creative. There are lots of carnivore recipes for beef online. Here’s just a few: 10 Best Carnivore Beef Recipes (Carnivore Diet Recipes)

Try different cuts of steak

It doesn’t have to be all ribeye steaks.

Eat some sirloin, or a New York strip steak, for a change.

Go beyond beef

Beef is great, but there are many other options available:

  • Pork (bacon, ribs, chops)

  • Chicken (breasts, thighs, drumsticks, wings)

  • Turkey

  • Duck

  • Lamb

  • Bison or Venison

  • Fish and seafood (tons of options, including sardines)

Enjoy eggs!

Eggs are a superfood, and they are so versatile.

You can make scrambled eggs, fried eggs, hard or soft boiled eggs, devilled eggs …

You can use eggs as a side dish for your other meats, and egg yolks make a delicious dip.

Try organ meats

They might not sound appealing, but if you enjoy them, organ meats like liver or kidney can add some variety, and they are nutrient dense.

Include cheese and dairy

Cheese and dairy are still technically animal products.

You can add a lot more variety if you allow cheese and dairy in your Carnivore diet.

Seasonings and dips

Most carnivores already use salt.

But if you’re not too strict, you can also try seasonings and spices such as onion or garlic powder, or paprika.

You can make dips or sauces out of mustard, carnivore friendly mayo (look for recipes online), heavy cream, or cream cheese.

Vary your cooking methods

Sometimes switching up the way you prepare your food can make meal time a little more interesting.

If you grill a lot, try roasting or baking.

Experiment with an Airfryer - they’re super quick and retain all the flavour.

Or throw a chuck roast in a slow cooker with some bone broth or butter. Yum!

Carnivore hacks

There are tons of hacks and recipes online.

Things like carnivore pizza crust and carnivore pancakes - even carnivore bread and desserts - can make this way of life a lot more fun.

Google carnivore recipes or look for online carnivore groups where they share recipes.

Consider KetoVore

Ketovore is a blend of the Carnivore and Keto diet.

It’s still animal based, but allows for some low carbohydrate options, as well.

But here’s something else to consider …

Is boring really bad?

Most of us come to the Carnivore diet because we’re either obese, or have health issues we want to fix.

Or both. Usually both, because they go hand in hand.

And one of the main reasons we become obese and unhealthy is that we abuse food.

We use food for comfort instead of nutrition.

We associate food with emotions, like happiness, or with fun.

Maybe our resistance to “boring” or “restrictive” is just a part of our food addiction?

Perhaps part of healing our relationship with food is coming to terms with the idea that eating doesn’t always have to be exciting.

In fact, that seems to be one of the advantages of the Carnivore diet - it can get us back in touch with the simplicity of eating for the sake of nutrition.

It’s worth thinking about.

Boring or not

Carnivore doesn’t have to mean boring.

And boring doesn’t have to be bad.

One thing is for sure, the Carnivore diet is good for your health and wellbeing.

It’s up to you what you make of it.
