Healing Skin Issues With Smart Nutrition

Did you know that your skin is the largest organ in the entire body? It’s true.
Your skin is your first line of defence, and yet many people suffer from skin conditions.
In fact, it’s been estimated that more than one third of the world’s population has some form of skin condition.
What kinds of issues are we talking about?
There are many different types of skin issues, some more serious than others.
And they can all be debilitating when you’re suffering with them.
Some of the more common conditions include:
-
Acne - While it’s often thought of as something only teenagers have, many adults have acne, as well.
-
Eczema - A chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes dry, itchy, red skin.
-
Hives - Welts that can itch, sting, or burn, usually associated with an allergic reaction or stress.
-
Psoriasis - An autoimmune skin condition that causes red, scaly patches of skin called plaques.
-
Rosacea - A condition that causes redness on the face.
-
Seborrheic Dermatitis - A condition that causes greasy, scaly patches on the skin.
Now let’s look at some things that can help if you’re dealing with skin issues.
Fasting
We talk a lot about fasting and how it helps with weight loss and metabolic disease.
Fasting can also do amazing things for your skin.
How it helps:
-
Taking a break from food - It’s super obvious, but when you fast, you’re not getting as much food as you normally do, and since food plays a role in many skin issues, fasting can alleviate symptoms.
-
Food allergies - Many skin issues are caused by food allergies.
-
Fasting reduces inflammation in the body. Many skin issues are linked to inflammation, so reducing inflammation helps.
-
Autophagy - The body’s built in recycling system is ramped up during fasting, and that works for your skin, as well.
-
Human Growth Hormone - Fasting also boosts HGH, which can have amazing benefits for the skin.
-
Gut health - Fasting heals the gut, and gut health impacts the skin. Anything that goes on in the gut is going to eventually show up in the skin.
Keto/Carnivore
Next up, let’s talk about a keto or carnivore diet.
As we mentioned before, food plays a big role in many skin conditions.
There is a great deal of anecdotal evidence that cutting back on carbohydrates and processed food can have dramatic effects on the skin.
Many people that have gone Keto or Carnivore for weight loss have been pleased to discover that it also cleared up their skin.
Talk about a win/win!
Check out some of the Keto or Carnivore groups on social media, you’ll see many success stories.
It works because carbohydrates and processed foods cause a lot of inflammation in the body.
And again, inflammation is a huge culprit in skin issues.
Also, because you’re cutting out a lot of foods when you go Keto or Carnivore, food allergies can be eliminated.
At the very least, even if you don’t want to cut out all carbohydrates, switch to whole foods.
Hydration
It sounds so simple, but staying properly hydrated is one of the best things you can do for your skin.
And by hydration, we mean water.
Getting enough water every day will help your body detox, and that’s going to make your skin happy.
You should aim for at least 64 ounces/1.8 litres of water a day, and after that drink to thirst.
If you are on a fat loss journey, you are probably going to need even more water than normal.
Struggle to drink water? Try sparkling water.
Or add a splash of lemon juice and/or Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother.
That will give you a little flavour, and the lemon juice and ACV are also very good for your skin.
Healthy, happy skin
We of course are not going to tell you that these tips will 100% cure all skin conditions.
But fasting, a clean diet, and proper hydration will make a huge difference.
Try it and see!
