Do you need fasting supplements?

Not everyone needs fasting supplements. Some people manage to get by without any.

The key factor is the duration of your fast.

Intermittent Fasting and Short-Term Extended Fasting

If you are only doing intermittent fasting, or short-term extended fasting (24-48 hours), you might be fine without any supplementation. Especially if your normal diet is healthy and nutritious.

Watch how you feel and look out for any symptoms of electrolyte deficiency. If they occur, then try taking a small dosage of electrolytes and increase if required.

Long-Term Extended Fasting

If you are fasting long-term (over 48 hours), you will need to replenish your electrolytes. The essential ones are sodium, potassium and magnesium.

You may also benefit from some nutritional support during the refeeding phase, to avoid any unpleasant refeed symptoms.
